POOL PARTY IDEAS FOR YOUR BACKYARD OASIS

There are millions of pool owners in the U.S., and if you’re one of them, you know that the pool area of your yard is the perfect party spot. It’s a summer-time space that offers activity options, a scenic setting and a way for your guests to cool off. But that’s not all.

Depending on what your backyard set-up includes, you have more than a few options for pool-side party fun. If you’ve been keeping your pool under wraps or have been saving it for family use only, it’s time to consider opening up the home oasis and using it for one of many celebrations.

You already have the pool, so why spend money paying other venues for a party space? Instead of planning your next big bash elsewhere, take a look at what types of parties go hand-in-hand with a backyard swimming session.

Graduation Celebrations

The pool is an ideal setting for your child’s kindergarten, middle school, high school, or college graduation party. Given that most graduations happen in June, the weather will be just right for an outdoor pool party.

This type of casual grad celebration pairs well with an equally dressed-down type of meal: Barbeque burgers, hot dogs, and veggies. Or take things up a notch and serve steak, chicken, or dressed-up kabobs. If you have a fire feature, pit, or fireplace in your yard you can also take the festivities from day into night. Turn on the pool’s lights, roast marshmallows on the fire pit, and keep the party going for as long as you want.

Bachelor and Bachelorette Celebrations

Even though your friends may have spent their bachelor/bachelorette partying at a club, some grooms and brides to be are less into a wild night out than they are an evening filled with friends and fun.

Invite your groomsmen or bridesmaids over for a tiki torch filled luau, stocking your poolside bar with coconuts that you can fill with your favorite drinks or make batches of frosty, fruit-filled beverages for your guests to enjoy.

Anniversary Celebrations

Celebrate the years that you’ve spent with your spouse by having a backyard bash. If you’re going for something less that’s less like a picnic and more like an elegant event, you don’t necessarily need to invite your guests to bring their swimsuits. Keep in mind; it’s completely acceptable to have a pool party that doesn’t involve swimming in the pool.

Sometimes a backyard pool is more of a backdrop than an activity. Instead of asking your guests to dive in, have an evening/night-time fete that includes fine dining, designer décor, drapery, and pool-safe tea lights that you float through the water.

An anniversary can be a fun-filled good time with sun and swimming. But it’s also a serious celebration that can deserve a more formal type of party design. Either type of event is perfect for your poolside setting.

Kids Birthday Celebrations

If spending the kids’ college fund on pricey sports complexes and outdoor adventure venues isn’t in the cards for your child’s big bash, a backyard birthday is ideal. Organize group activities, such as water basketball or a water obstacle course for the entertainment portion of the party.

Unlike adults-only pool activities, you’ll need to make sure that you have extra hands on deck for safety and supervision. Ask ahead, giving parents the chance to let you know if their children can’t swim. If you have non-swimming kids or children who are afraid of the water, arrange other activities to include them. This might mean setting up a backyard relay race or crafts for the kids to create while seated in the grass or on your patio.
